Setting up your buttons

Buttons provide links to pages within your website or to other sites on the Internet. A logical set of buttons will make it much easier for people to find information on your site.  In most of the EasySiteWizard templates, buttons will appear on the left side of your website or along the top of your website. The design you choose will determine the general appearance of your buttons.

Button setup allows you to decide how many buttons your EasySiteWizard site will have, what they will say and what will happen when they are clicked. Follow the steps below to configure each of your buttons.

1 - Select a button

By default, the settings for button 1 are displayed. After you have configured button 1, select the next button you would like to configure from the "Jump to button:" menu at the top right of the application window. Buttons that have not been activated are darkened in the menu.  In the example, button number 2 is being configured.

2 - Activate a button

In the Button setup step, there is a box labeled "Activate this button."  Check this box if you want the button selected in the "Jump to button:" menu to appear on the website.  If this box is not checked, the button will not appear on your EasySiteWizard site. Buttons that have not been activated are darkened in the menu. In the example, buttons 6,7 and 8 have not been activated.

3 - Select button text

In the EasySiteWizard Button setup step, you can select the text for your button from the drop-down list of commonly used text, or you can enter custom text in the field underneath the drop-down list. You can also start with text from the menu and edit it to customize your buttons.  Long button labels may not fit into the amount of space provided. The button in the example is labeled "About Us."

4 - Select where the information will be displayed

When a button on your website is clicked, a variety of things can happen.  The "Link opens in" menu determines where the information associated with the button will be displayed. You can choose to display the information in the default frame, the entire window or a new browser window.  The button in the example will open in the default frame.

Default frame -When someone clicks on the button, they will still be able to see the design template that you chose in step three.  The content of the page will be displayed inside of the design.

Entire window - When someone clicks on the button, the content of the page will be displayed without the design template.  In order to view the buttons and the header of your EasySiteWizard site, they will have to use the 'Back' button on their browser.

New window - When someone clicks on the button, an additional browser window will open, and it will display the page without the design template. The EasySiteWizard window will still be open.

5 - Select the kind of page that will be displayed

The pages buttons can link to falls into several categories, which are described below.

Home Page - Most people configure the first button to link to their home page. A button that links to your home page will take you back to your home page (also known as your index page), which is automatically opened when someone goes to your domain via a browser. Be sure that the "Link opens in" field is set to "Default frame" if you want your home page to include your design template when this button is selected. You will be able to add the content of this page in the next step.

A custom page built with EasySiteWizard - Select this if you want a button to take you to an EasySiteWizard page that has the design template that you chose in step three. If you select this option, you will be able to enter content for the page in the next step.

Send me an email - Select this if you want a button to create a mailto: link which opens an email message addressed to you.  EasySiteWizard will use the email address you entered when you personalized your website.

Link to an external site - Select this and enter a URL in this field if you want the button to open a page on the Internet outside of your website. Do not use this option if you want the button to open an EasySiteWizard page.  It is usually best to have the "Link opens in" field set to "New window" or "Entire window" if your button links to another website. If the external site is opened into "Default frame," it will appear inside of your design template.
